The Research School on Peace and Conflict invites applications for the course Societal security: critical perspectives, to take place at VUB-IES in Brussels on 17-19 October 2018. The deadline for applications is 15 August 2018.
The Research School on Peace and Conflict invites applications for the course Interconnections of Finance and Security, 8th -10th October 2015. The course is organized by Nina Boy (PRIO). Course lecturers include Marieke de Goede (University of Amsterdam), Martijn Konings (University of Sydney), Daniela Gabor (University of the West of England), Andreas Langenohl (Justus Liebig University Giessen) and Luis Lobo-Guerrero (University of Groningen).
This survey aims to understand the European citizens’ perceptions of security.
The SOURCE project has developed a questionnaire to understand how the different sectors involved in societal security interact, and whether or not they encounter any difficulties thereby. The aim is further to develop tools, processes and guidelines to improve the knowledge exchange between the different sectors.
The NordForsk board has decided to award one of the two new Nordic Centres of Excellence under the Nordic Societal Security Programme to PRIO. NOK 22 million have been allocated to the centre to be headed by J. Peter Burgess from the Dimensions of Security department at PRIO.
The SOURCE Network of Excellence on societal security organized a sector survey meeting with high-ranking experts from different fields at the VUB on 5 June 2014. About 20 invited representatives from different professions and institutions, including partners of the SOURCE consortium discussed a number of security problems and solutions, following a structured approach of decision support for security solutions, based on the DESSI method.
The website for the FP7-funded SOURCE project has been launched today. Created jointly by CEPS and VUB, the website presents the project, the partners, the primary network and the upcoming news and activities.

The PRIO coordinated SOURCE project “Virtual centre of excellence for research support and coordination on societal security" held its kick-off meeting on 28 January 2014 thereby officially launching the five-year project funded by the EU FP7 programme.
PRIO invites applications for a full-time position for 16 months for a highly competent researcher in support of PRIO’s EU project portfolio in security research. The successful candidate will join PRIO’s security research team and carry out research on the intersections of security and finance with a particular focus on societal security. The researcher will work on the project ”SOURCE – Virtual centre of excellence for research support and coordination of societal security”. Security research at PRIO seeks to contribute to innovation in Norwegian and European security thinking by fostering synergies between research in the human and social sciences and technological innovation.
