Research Interests
I am a Senior Researcher at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), where I currently work on artificial intelligence as a frontier of US-China competition; the ethics of algorythms; dual-use technology; and the security assistance provided to countries in Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. My broader research interests include Chinese foreign policy, China’s engagement in Africa and Asia, the Belt and Road Initiative, artificial intelligence and its military applications, the politics of Southeast Asia, and South-South cooperation. Prior to joining PRIO, I was the editor of Millennium: Journal of International Studies, Vol. 45, and I worked as a consultant at the UNESCAP in Bangkok, where I led a project on sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region. I have a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a MA in Chinese Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies.
